5 Things Thursday: This Week’s Updates

First off, have you seen this week’s Thrifted or Grifted results? If not, go check ‘em out. You may be surprised.

Sometimes, I just can’t help but hit you guys with a round of randomness, and today is one of those days.

Hope you don’t mind too much.

Let’s get to it!

1. In case you’re wondering, our current round of ducks is doing fine, thank you very much.

2. This is what my tree-ring flowerbed looks like right now.

IMG_2709-002

It’s pretty much a hot mess (my husband always shakes his head in dismay when I use that phrase) since I haven’t done a thing to them yet this year, but the wildness of the overflowing white bushy bits paired with the purple tallish flowers really appeals to me somehow. Something English-gardenesque about it that I really like. (Isn’t my super-specific plant terminology impressive? I promise I actually planted them last year with my own hands, but I have zero recollection of their names…clearly).

3. We have a garage door now, and I kind of love it. (Still no house-paint, though).

4. Patterned maxi dresses have been catching my eye lately.

Like this one:

Or this adorable DIY from Lindsay.

{Click the pic to be taken to the post where she shows how she made hers}

Definitely tempted to copycat.

A future Try-it Tuesday, perhaps?

5. Finally, although I’m well aware that internet diagnosing a health condition is super-risky business, I just can’t help myself on this one.

Which means I need your help.

For the last 16 weeks or so, I’ve been having these symptoms—stuff like nausea, acute exhaustion, headaches, ravenous hunger, mood swings, and, most curious of all, swelling in the abdominal region.

I’m just wondering if I should be worried.

Does this sound like something you guys have encountered before?

Just a quick shot to help you get a visual so you can make a more accurate diagnosis.

Thanks a heap ahead of time for any help you can throw my way!

Love the post? Then follow the blog! Please?

Oh, and you can like it too if you want!

  2. I think it's an epidemic. Several friends of mine seem to be displaying these symptoms lately. Strangely enough I have also been experiencing all but the nausea. If only I could attribute it to the same health condition they, and apparently now you, have. Unfortunately, it seems to be more a case of over-eating due to job induced stress syndrome for me. Bummer. Anyway, a few of my suggestions for handling the duration of your health condition would be to indulge in any sudden need for a particular food group, go ahead and make a DIY maxi dress or two (they will come in handy during the upcoming summer months), and put Della in charge of the boys if exhaustion calls for a catnap. :)

  5. Your posts are just hilarious to read. My husband and I have 4 children, so when we announced the 4th one he asked a question. Don't you know how this happens? Anyway, you look absolutely amazing for experiencing these symptoms for the past 16 weeks. Congratulations!

  6. Oops, I forgot to say "my DAD" asked us that question. My husband would say let's keep practicing...

  7. Awe! Congrats! What a cute post!

  8. Hmmm….if I were a DR (and shhh! don't tell my kids that I'm not)…I would probably diagnose you with babyitis. But I could be wrong seeing as how "itis" really means infection…and well it doesn't seem infected to me…guess I really shouldn't diagnose without a degree. Anyway…congrats to you!!

  9. Woo hoo!! Sounds like you swallowed a watermelon seed! Congratulations!

  10. ooohhh, another one of my favorite bloggers is preggo! Love it! Congrats :)

  11. AHHHH!!! A BABY!!! Congrats! So exciting!

I was going to comment about the DIY dress...before I decided you were preggers...now it seems not quite as important after that exciting revelation, but I'll comment anyway...I've had my eye on making that maxi dress since I saw it on Pinterest and then when Lindsay made hers so it's on my to-do list in the next two weeks. I really hope you make one, too, so I can see another perspective and get more tips. I've been sewing for a few months now but I've never made clothes so this will be an adventure.

Oooo now I can tie both things together...just yesterday I saw on Pinterest a DIY maternity version of that maxi dress...sounds like you need it now :) Here's a link: http://doityourselfdivas.blogspot.com/2011/10/diy-perfect-maternity-dress-revamped.html

Congratulations! A maxi-dress will be perfect summer wear for pregnancy! Say no to uncomfortable waistbands! I was asked twice this week whether I'm pregnant...that's after losing 10 pounds over the past year. I think I need to stay away from empire-waist clothing.
Oh, and I love your english garden flowerbed! Mine are mostly looking bare and shrivelled right now, except the tulips are starting to come up now.

Squeee! The world is not yet ready for more of the cuteness you seem to offspring. It's good that we get some advance notice so that we can adequately prepare for the hours of gawking over said expected cuteness. Congrats!

  33. Congrats, what great news! Clever way to share...

  34. Seems like there's a lot of that going around. I had those same symptoms this fall/winter. Now, I just have a very swollen belly and back pain. : ) Congrats-so excited for you.

  37. Oh, and I forgot - the forgetting all the time (the plant names) is called "Pregnancy brain" according to that daughter I talked about above (but then - in my case - it's just called forgetting). Ha!Ha!

  38. What a beautiful picture! As a nursing student who isn't allowed to diagnose, I'd venture to guess that you're pregnant!!!!!
Ow ow! Good for you and your family, congrats Abbie!

  40. So happy for you and your family, Abbie! YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  46. LOL! You're not going to believe this, but my first thought (since it's so close to my heart don'tcha know...) was "Oh, no. Poor girl. She's going through menopause." Til I realized that you're MUCH too young for that business! lolol! Praise the Lord! lol! And congratulations, Abbie!

  49. How exciting!!! Congratulations to you all. I have four boys so I'll tell you that a fourth child really does round out a family nicely. Something about even numbers that just makes things more comfortable.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Aw, congratulations Abbie!!! Hoping you have another girlie and then you will have an even number of boys/girls. LOL. I have heard it is easier going from 3 to 4, as someone else posted, it seems to round it out a bit. Is Miss Della ready to share you?? Very happy for you!

  54. Congratulations and welcome to the world of four! You look amazing for 16 weeks & I'm sure your exercise classes have helped! You're going to love the four; everyone always has a buddy and the first two and second two will have a special bond. It wasn't that much harder going from three to four. Let me know if you need any baby clothes! We're done & I will happily send some your way:) (just not USPS):) God Bless:)

  55. SQUEEEEEEEEE!!!!!

    Congratulations, Love!!! I'm a newish follower, but I've already spent hours perusing your site and getting to know your adorable family (which is too ca-ute for words, I must say). ^_^ As I plunge head-first into your wonderful world of inspiration, one thing is glaringly clear: your exceptional creative abilities are surpassed only by your ability to produce gorgeous offspring. And judging by joy that is so clear on everyone's faces, I can tell that you are an amazing mom. =}

I know I speak for all your readers when I say that we couldn't be more excited for you and your family. You deserve all the happiness in the world!! *HUGS*
