Happy Wednesday, everybody!
Are you ready to do this?
It’s time for Thrifted or Grifted, the fashion game where you test your thrifting savvy by deciding whether an outfit is:
100% Thrifted: (adj.)—previously loved and therefore ridiculously cheap…aka Secondhand
OR
100% Grifted: (adj.)—swindled or cheated…aka Retail
(Disclaimer: No, I don’t actually think that you’re getting ripped off every time you pay retail, but I do believe that if you can’t tell the difference, you shouldn’t have to pay for it).
Well, we’re Even Steven, folks…assuming, of course, that it’s me against the majority, which…I don’t really think it is…but I’m a competitive sort, so I’ll go with it.
2-2, so far, so…
Tie-breaker, it is!
Bring. it. on.
So, which is it?
Exhibit A:
Heels + gravel should not = smiles, but I can fake it!
This is my game face.
Am I thinking thrifty thoughts?
OR
Exhibit B:
Flower corsage made by me.
Well, don’t I look smug? Maybe I know something you don’t? Umm..yeah. I guess that’s kind of the point.
I had to end with this pic. I look like I’m ready to talk some smack. ; )
P.S. Please disregard the wrinkly state of Exhibit B. I’m not actually sure which way it would sway your opinion since thrifted and retail outfits alike are prone to wrinkles when their owners forget to iron them, but I just wanted to point out that the wrinkles are not an attempt to make you think this outfit is thrifted when it’s really not (although it might be!) or to make you think that I’m trying to make you think…oh, man. Now my head hurts. You get the idea, right? I forgot to iron my top!
And now for the vote!
Which outfit is 100% thrifted?
I would love it if you leave a comment explaining the reason behind your vote! The commenter I find most entertaining will get 5 free entries into The October Giveaway (coming soon!).
P.P.S. Also, don’t forget that Thursday (tomorrow!) is the first ever 5 Things Thursday linky party, and the theme is:
You don’t have to stick with a travel theme, though. The idea is just to link up a list of five things on your mind (preferably with pictures)—movies, recipes, memories, projects, paint colors…anything goes! Just have fun with it! I’ll consider it your birthday present to me if you decide to participate! ; )

Oh, and you can like it too if you want!

Exhibit B is thrifted. You cleverly tried to distract us with the wrinkle comment, but I won't be fooled! :) I love the first outfit! The gray jacket is darling!
ReplyDeleteso adorable! whether its grifted or thrifted, your outfit looks lovely! :)
ReplyDeleteso cute! and you are gorgeous!!!
ReplyDeleteI think A is the thrifted one...and totally cute! I base that on the fact that I am a self-proclaimed thrift queen and can spot these things a mile away...oh, and full of crap most of the time. ;o)
ReplyDeleteAs for B...wrinkles add character and that corsage is just gorgeous!
I love guessing every week... but seriously, it's always a guess! You are always so cute and I love them both!
ReplyDeleteOk. So I voted or A as the thrifted outfit. Why? In part because I just LOVE outfit B more ... is that a good enough reason? Clearly a very scientific one. The braided belt in A feels waaaay retro to me ... like didn't I wear that in high school many moons ago? So that's making me think A is the thrifty option. So if it's A, then "Damn, I'm good!" and if it's B, then "Damn, you rock it, girl!" Can't wait to find out ... :)
ReplyDeleteI vote A.
ReplyDeleteI don't have a good reason this week, so how about a bad reason? My first name starts with A, so there you go. Also the reason why I did poorly on some random tests in college... when in doubt I just chose A and moved on. :)
I guessed B - I don't really know why. I think because the colors in A look too "in" to be recently thrifted, but hey - you find all kinds of steals.
ReplyDeleteAnd chicka, I've never told you, but the other comments inspired me: You're one gorgeous girl! And not just 'cause you wear cute clothes! :)
I guessed A. I think you are tricking us with the more polished look. (Although both are adorable!)
ReplyDeleteLoving this feature--and your other site, too! You look beautiful in both.
ReplyDeleteI guess A is thrifted because the jacket is so short and the pants are a tad long--but if I'd buy them if they were cheap at a thrift store. Outfit in B rocks!
Hmmm I am going with A is thrifted- only because I want to steal Jacket B.
ReplyDeleteBoth are super cute!
I said A is thrifted. The only hint I got was the coloring. Less subtle. More "thrifty" colors, I used to wear lots of black and white, and that crazy yellow reminds me of jr. high. But really with all the crazy 80's-90's stuff out there, my guess might not be right. Exhibit B is more subtle in tone and more about texture. Am I making any sense? idk
ReplyDeleteI voted for B because I just couldn't decide. They are both super cute. I picked B because I liked it a little more than A.
ReplyDeleteI'm taking the easy out and saying B because it's wrinkled + I think that was last year Target jacket? they are both cute outfits..
ReplyDeleteI'm voting A cuz I think that yellow shirt is on the short side for current styles. It is sooo early 2000's. ;) And I see a ton of too short shirts at the GW. And I think I had a braided belt like that in high school. But then I'm thrown off by the cute jacket and long necklace.....both very trendy. Sigh......its all a crap-shoot. I think both of them are adorbs and would totally wear either of 'em!
ReplyDeleteI would like to thank you from the bottom of my heart for this amazing post. You are really looking fabulous in all pics & your dresses are fits perfectly and look stunning.I was extremely nervous to buy something as important as my dresses. I am so glad I found you online...
ReplyDeleteHm, I can't really say why, but I think B is thrifted. Both outfits look great though...
ReplyDeleteYou look awesome!!! Glad I found your blog!
ReplyDeletemy blog is www.highheels2flipflops.com
ReplyDeleteBoy, this is tough. It must be B. Or is it A. Oh man. I voted for B as thrifted, but now I'm second guessing myself. Man, this is tough.

This is my first visit here (via WIWW) and I have to say this is all quite delightful. What a fun idea for outfit posts! I voted against the trend, I guess. I think outfit A is thrifted. You are so cute in both! LOVE the flower corsage!
ReplyDeleteI think it is B because the black jeans in A look too dark to be thrifted - I have searched my GW for black jeans and they all seem to be faded and old looking! I am ALWAYS wrong here though so we'll see!!
ReplyDeleteI'm with Cherish - I voted for B but I'm not so sure it's the right answer. Then again, I don't think I've gotten any of them right so far...
ReplyDeleteI think A is thrifted because it looks like part of a suit that has been split up-but I said b first and changed my guess. I think the collar on the jacket is a little old and the rosettes on the green top are a little more contemporary. I think you may have added the corsage to throw us off too!
ReplyDeletei voted for B! i dont know though?!?!?! who knows. i have no clue. :) but i like both outfits! seriously they both look great on you, and i love the pictures :)
ReplyDeletesharde @ the style projects
I chose A as thrifted because I ALWAYS choose wrong so I went against my instincts. Probably won't work, but hey...had to try!
ReplyDeletelove the outfits super cute, love the colours you wear. and the corsage is super cute. I love flowers.
ReplyDeleteI chose A, mostly because I like B better. Even though you look great in both, most of us wouldn't look great in jacket A (me) and so if it were mine, I would have donated it to Goodwill.
ReplyDeleteOh and for the commenter above, Mandy, who chose A because because A is the first letter of her first name...huh?
A has got to be grifted, there's no way you could find black jeans that were still black at a thrift store. (and if you did, kudos to you for having that kind of patience.)
